Review
While the racing sequences are visually stunning, Race 3 is a mess. The plot is uninteresting, and character motivations and allegiances are arbitrary. The acting is uneven, and even Shah Rukh Khan, who has been making films for more than two decades, seems to be going through the motions. The film’s one-liners are unremarkable and the performances lack any sustained adrenaline rush.
As expected, Salman Khan has opted for the RACE franchise because of its sex appeal, but the cast is largely lacking in charisma. The film stars two men past their prime and two underwhelming women. There is no dynamite villain or likable character here, so fans will be disappointed. Nevertheless, there are plenty of good moments in the movie, and the film has enough clapping opportunities to satisfy even the most die-hard fan of the franchise.
Synopsis
The premise of the film is a mafia family that deals in illegal arms and ammunition. This gangster film follows the exploits of the oldest member of the family, Shamsher Singh, who is as sharp as a suit. A voice-over introduces the Singh family’s history. However, the film fails to live up to its promise of being a tense thriller, as the plot lacks any kind of suspense.
The film follows the lives of three members of a dysfunctional family: Shamsher, the head of the family, and Sikander, a kind-hearted and wise member. The rest of the family members, including Sanjana and Suraj, harbor grudges against Shamsher. Shamsher acts as a pacifier for his family, and Sikander is his trusted comrade. However, this family dysfunction is about to come to a head when Shamsher discovers a hard disk worth millions of dollars. While Shamsher and Sikandar are trying to get the disk, the family has trouble, so they must work together to save the hard disk.
Rating
The latest Bollywood release has a low rating on the Indian movie portal IMDb. While the franchise has a strong following amongst the youth, Race 3 hasn’t really lived up to expectations and hardly deserves a watch. It’s a mindless movie with a formulaic plot and a family-friendly tone, but its star actor Salman Khan is a thorn in the side of the movie’s fans.
While it’s enjoyable enough to hold audiences’ interest, Race 3’s plot is largely lacking and doesn’t provide enough suspense to keep the audience guessing. Although the suspense in the film is better than in its predecessors, the lack of enjoyable storytelling prevents Race 3 from becoming an all-time classic. In the end, Race 3 is a mediocre movie that aims to entertain but ultimately falls short of becoming a satisfying whole.
